He let out a small sigh. “Whew, that’s good. That’s…that’s really good. But uh, you can’t say the same out him, can you? He won’t hurt me, and he’s not going to, I dunno, mess me up or anything. I’m still the same! See?” He holds his arms out to his sides, smiling weakly.
“Can you promise that you won’t hurt him? I mean, he’s bad enough already, with all that…that stuff that’s happened to him.” Everything in his diary, or journal thing…he deserves to have something better than all that.
To be happy, for once.
The softness in her eyes was showing more than it was before. She felt like reaching out to him and telling him that she wanted to trust him like Silver did, and that she wanted to be as accepting as he was, but it was hard. She wasn’t like him. She wasn’t quick to trust, quick to grow fond… she was harder, much less malleable.

“…I can promise that if you don’t want me to, I won’t,” she settled. There wasn’t any use in mentioning that if he even upset Silver a little, she’d be the first one to defend him.

“Blaze, please calm down,” he asked, almost pleading, putting his hands on her shoulders. “I promise he’s a good guy! I really…I really wish you two would get along more.” He looked down at her clenched hands. “You’re my best friend, and you always will be, and I really really like him a lot, so…” His ears folded as his voice got small. “Please don’t hurt him. Or me. Or anyone. Please.”

How was she supposed to get out of this one? On one end, she wanted nothing more than to keep him safe. He wasn’t lying about the best friend bit, after all - he was the closest friend she’d ever had, and he was precious to her. He opened up to her, no matter how outlandish she was. Instincts pointed towards Shadow being toxic to his being.
…On the other hand, he looked genuinely serious. Shadow was making him happy… happy in ways she hadn’t seen him in a long time.
She couldn’t get soft.
“…I’d never hurt you, Silver,” she managed, fists pressed up against the sides of her slim legs.

Deep breaths, deep breaths —
“…Silver.”
“W-what? I get nervous when you talk like that…don’t set him on fire or anything…don’t set me on fire either…”
“I’m not going to set you on fire. I’m not going to set him on fire, I’m, I’m -“ Going to break his neck? Smolder him in a pit of hot lava? A swift heel to the face? “…!”
Her firsts clenched and unclenched. Just how was she supposed to respond?
troubleincrisiscity replied to your post: Oh and uh, Blaze? Shadow uh…Shadow touched me the other night too. Just just a little, just on my face and m-my chest and stuff like that, but it…it felt really nice, and I wanted him to and he was really careful with me, I promise!
“DON’T GET MAD please don’t get mad Blaze and don’t take it out on him, I wanted him to! I mean I…ah, well yeah and I…ah. Just don’t get mad at him…”
Deep breaths, deep breaths —

“…Silver.”
Shadow crossed his arms, stifling a cough that was threatening its way through. “I know why you do it, which is why I’m not angry,” he replies evenly, looking back up to her. “But Silver can make judgment for himself.” He met her gaze straight, his eyes strong. “The only times he has responded to me with any sort of melancholy,” he continued on, his voice suddenly dark, “were the only times I looked back at myself in any form of seriousness. Those were the times I recounted my memories without the light tone you are used to hearing from me.”
“That’s the problem, though. When you talk about it like it’s lighthearted, he interprets it as not mattering as much when it really does. We’re not out here having a vacation,” she breathed, taking it down a notch or two. Her fingertips were beginning to burn, and this were her last pair of good gloves. “…I know you hate to scare him, but he needs to understand that it’s not all fun and games out here, just like he needs to understand that he’ll be safe as long as we’re not all fighting.”
Her eyes met his and she lingered with an unsaid agreement. If you help me keep him safe, I might not rip your face off.
“He…”
“…”
“…Touched you.”

Because I’m trying to protect you and it’s getting harder to do the more you grow up.
“…You’re…” she cut off, slipping her hand down. “Just get some rest, okay?”
He sighs a little. “All right, fine.” He gets a nervous look. “Ah, it’s getting dark…b-but I can make it. Yeah, I need the rest.” Silver smiles at her sunnily, then yawns. I really ought to find him, or else I won’t be able to sleep. I hate being afraid of sleeping in the total dark, but what if Iblis…and monsters…
Cut that out, you’re giving yourself the creeps!
It wasn’t hard to catch his change in expression. Her slim shoulder bumped by his, as if reinforcing the idea that she was still around and nothing bad would happen to him. When’d he get taller than her? Those damn quills of his…
“See? You’re yawning. I could go for some sleep myself,” she mentioned offhandedly.
He sighed, and then a strange expression passed over his face. “You act as if I don’t give a damn about him, when I do.” His gaze flicked to the ground. More than you know…
“I am not heartless. It’s broken, no doubt it will collapse, but it is there.”
“…Right, but I also know you tend to… not take certain things seriously. How do I know if you don’t take something of that matter seriously with him?” She felt like asking him about how fragile Silver potentially was, how he wasn’t the Ultimate Lifeform, how breakable and smushable the hedgehog was.
“I do it because I care,” she finished curtly.
troubleincrisiscity replied to your post: Do you think he’d let me sleep next to him again? It was so comfortable the last time.
“Yeah, sleep! …Why are you looking at me like that.”
Because I’m trying to protect you and it’s getting harder to do the more you grow up.
“…You’re…” she cut off, slipping her hand down. “Just get some rest, okay?”
“Oh, Blaze, your approval is so blatantly obvious.”
“Sorry, it’s hard to give up the only bright and wonderful thing in this god forsaken world to someone who doesn’t seem to take himself half as seriously as he should.”
“What is the benefit in that? If I take myself so seriously, I would crack.” Something about his tone indicated this wasn’t one of his grim jokes.
There was definitely something burning beneath those yellow eyes of hers. She sizzled silently, deciding. Compartmentalize…
“…If you corrupt him, I’ll end you. If you hurt him, I’ll end you. I do hope you realize that.”
